Getting Started Guide

STEP 1

New Design or Redesign?

A few things to think about and know before we begin

Are You Getting a New Website?

Down Payment — 50% down payment required to get started. Optional: pay in full.

Signed Agreement — Review, sign and return our simple 1-page Agreement.

Domain Ideas — What .co.za or .com domain name would you like? Any ideas? Come up with a few (and so will we) and we’ll check their availability. Once you choose a domain name, you should intend to keep it (so think carefully). We will take care of registering the domain name for you.

Redesigning your current site?

Down Payment — 50% down payment required to get started. Optional: pay in full.

Signed Agreement — Review, sign and return our simple 1-page Agreement.

Domain Login Details  — We need access to your domain name so we can work with it. If you’d like, we can transfer it to our server for safe keeping.

Hosting or WordPress Login — What is the login to your current website? We need this to redesign and update it.

STEP 2

Getting Your Content Ready

It’s best to collect and organize your content in separate folders before sending it.

Logo

Get your logo ready in one of the following formats: EPS, PDF, PNG, JPG,AI,TIFF

Don’t have a logo? No worries, we can help! We can design a custom, professional logo for you here.

Color Scheme

What colors would you like on your website? Colors should be careful chosen to convey the intended feeling and mood of the website.  Adobe Kuler is great to use.

Collect the the colour codes you would like to use eg. #821805, #2A0B00

Photos

Collect your best HD photos for your website. The bigger the size, the better. Methods of digital transportation: Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, WeTransfer.

Don’t have photos? Visit Unsplash for copyright-free images.

Design

Are there any websites out there you particularly like? Whether they are in the same industry as you or not, this is very helpful information! Give us an idea of what you’d like to see on your website. Have a look at your competitors, what you like and what you don’t like is valuable information for us.

Pages

What pages do you want on your website? Ideas: Home, About Us, Services, Products, Testimonials, Photo Gallery, Contact.

You can have whatever pages you want. This is your website!

Content

Most importantly, send us the content that goes on each page. For the About Us page, send a few paragraphs and photos to explain your company’s background and story. For the Contact page, what’s your current contact details? For the Gallery, we need photos to put there. You get the idea.

Now that you have your content ready, you can fill out the

STEP 3

We Start To Design Your Website Mockup

Sit back and relax and watch us work our Magic.

The Process Begins

Once you have given us everything we need to get started, we commence building your website!

It typically takes us 1-2 weeks to prepare a mockup. Yes, we are quick!

Once we’re ready to show you our work, we will notify you and send a link to the mockup.

The Mockup

At that point, most people love what they initially see, but keep in mind, though, that what you see is just a mockup. It’s not a finished product. That means if you don’t like something, that’s totally fine! You have total freedom to request any changes you want. Don’t like the colors? The layout? Certain pieces of text? Make a list of the changes you’d like, and we’ll keep working on the site.

Your Review

It’s recommended you check out the site on your desktop computer.

This is how we design the website at first (not for viewing on a mobile device). If you check the mobile site, you may see some funky design rendering.

The mobile version of the site is done later.

Notes & Feedback

Many clients have found it easy to write the list of changes in either an email or a Word Document. Try to organize the changes by page and don’t be afraid to speak up. You won’t hurt our feelings. This is your website, and you should take pride in the finished product.

After a few rounds of revision, the site is ready to finalize and launch.

STEP 4

Final Edits & Launching

After going through a few rounds of revision, the website should be to your liking.

Final Edits

At this point, we do a number of things to the site before we “launch” it:

  1. Make it mobile-friendly by optimizing it for tablets and smartphones.
  2. Check that all “links” are working.
  3. Harden the website against hackers using a number of security strategies.
  4. Setting up SEO with keywords and descriptions
  5. Submit the site to search engines.
  6. Optimize Images – Optimises image size and load times while retaining quality.
  7. Check that all Forms are working.
  8. Optimizing Code, CSS and Databases for best performance.
  9. Go through every page and scrutinize every element of the design and content.

Maintenance Plan

If you choose to have our monthly maintenance plan we will also:

  1. Send you Monthly detailed analytics reports.
  2. Install Uptime monitoring.
  3. Configure regular website backups.
  4. Monitor for (and remove) Malware and Viruses.
  5. Updates Security regularly.
  6. Update Plugins regularly
  7. Update WordPress Core regularly.
  8. Monitor and check SEO Optimization.
  9. Monitor for Change detection.
  10. Regular Photo optimisations.
  11. Install GEO-Redundancy.
  12. Monitor Local Listing.

Full description of each feature check here.

Note that many of the above steps aren’t visible on the frontend of the website. These are things we need to do to the backend of the site.

If you haven’t already paid, the 50% final balance is due just before the launch of the site.

    What’s Next?

Now that the website is designed, developed, and launched, what’s next?
